Ingredients

Instructions

  • Place all the ingredients in a 1.5 quart milk pot and bring to the boil over a medium high heat.
  • Turn the heat down to low and simmer for 20 minutes.
  • Remove from the heat, then leave to infuse for a further 10 minutes.
  • Strain through a tea strainer and serve straight away or leave all the ingredients in the pot to infuse for longer (the longer it’s left to infuse the stronger the flavour).
  • If leaving to develop a stronger flavour, reheat the tea on a low heat, if needed, before serving.

Notes

Links. Above links are for US readers. Links for UK readers – whole hibiscus flowers, whole rosehips, Ceylon cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, cardamom pods, whole star anise, 1.5 quart milk pot, measuring jug, measuring cups, tablespoon, chopping knife, tea strainer.
Storage. The tea can be left covered at room temperature for up to 8 hours. Alternatively, after being left to cool completely and strained, it can be stored in a glass airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Freeze the tea in 1 cup servings so you only have to defrost the desired amount of cups each time. Don’t fill the jar right to the top, allow a 1-2 inch gap at the top to allow the tea to expand as it freezes. Label each container with the name and date frozen so you know when to drink it by.
To drink – transfer the jar to the fridge overnight or for at least 12 hours or leave at room temperature for at least 2 hours until thawed completely. It can be then be reheated in a small milk pot on a low heat until warmed through and the desired temperature is reached.
