Importance of using toxic free cleaning products
We’re exposed to over 700,000 harmful chemicals everyday, one source of which is in the cleaning products we use (1).
Regular cleaning products contain the following harmful chemicals, which we inhale when we use them:-
- Alcohol
- Ammonia
- Artificial fragrances and parfums
- Bleach
- Chlorine
- EDTA chelating agent

- Phthalates

Introducing NeerSol
So I was really excited when I heard about NeerSol, a UK based company, who have launched a range of affordable, toxin-free, sustainable and eco-friendly cleaning products.
NeerSol offers 3 products:-
- All-purpose cleaning tablets
- Glass cleaning tablets – suitable for use on glass, mirrors, windscreens and windows.
- Bathroom cleaning tablets – suitable for use on tubs, tiles, showers, basins, baths, toilets and bathroom counters.
They kindly gifted me their non toxic glass cleaner tablets to try and review.
1). Ingredients
NeerSol’s products are made with the following ingredients, which are free from the common harmful chemicals found in regular cleaning products:-
- Plant-based sulphate-free anionic surfactant
- Potassium sorbate
- Sodium benzoate
- Food colorant
All their products are free from artificial perfumes and parfum. The glass cleaner which I reviewed is fragrance free – free from even essentials oils. Their all purpose and bathroom cleaners contain 100% natural essential oils, as their survey with product testers noted a strong preference for the inclusion of this.
However, as I have sensitive skin, and can react to even natural essential oils, I normally always purchase fragrance free products, free from even essential oils. I hope as NeerSol expand their range, there will be an option to purchase all purpose and bathroom cleaners that are free from essential oils too.
2). Easy To Make & Use

The cleaning solution is so easy to make by simply:-
- Adding 350ml/1.5 cups of warm water to a reusable spray glass bottle,
- Add 1 tablet,
- Screw the top on the bottle and when the tablet has dissolved the cleaning solution is ready to be used.
Unfortunately, the tablet wouldn’t fit through the mouth of the reusable glass bottle I had at home so I had to dissolve the tablet in a bowl of water and then transfer it to the glass bottle with a funnel. This added some time to the process but making the cleaning solution was still quick and easy.
How to use the non toxic glass cleaner
To the non toxic glass cleaner all I had to do was:-
- Spray the solution onto glass surfaces
- Then wipe with a microfibre cloth until dry.
Microfibre cloths (UK Link/US Link) are optimal to use for cleaning as they attract, absorb and trap dust, dirt and bacteria rather than spreading it to other parts of the room like other materials (6).
I was really impressed with how effective the cleaner was. It cleaned glass, mirrors and windows well, removing all marks and stains and didn’t leave any smears after, which can be rare with non toxic glass cleaners. The cleaning solution has a long shelf and can be stored in a cool, dark place for 6-8 months.
3). Eco-friendly & Sustainable
The thing I love that makes NeerSol stand out above other toxin free products I’ve used was their products are also sustainable and eco-friendly.
Plastic free recyclable packaging
Most non toxic cleaning products come in single use plastic bottles. Plastic takes years to decompose, with 60% of it ending up in landfill and the oceans, harming the environment and wildlife.
It also leaches harmful toxins and chemicals into the cleaning products, which we inhale when we use them. This can weaken our immune system and cause a range of health problems, including:-
- Hormone disruption,
- Reproductive problems,
- Respiratory and breathing problems,
- Autoimmune conditions,
- Impaired brain development,
- Damage to the nervous system and
- Cancer (7, 8, 9).
40% of plastics produced are for packaging. While you can purchase large 4-5 litre refills to reduce plastic waste and transportation and shipping demands, NeerSol goes the extra mile and completely eliminates plastic packaging, with their products packaged in recyclable cardboard and tablets wrapped in strip packaging, which is biodegradable and suitable for paper recycling.
Each time you use one of Neersol’s cleaning tablets instead of a single use plastic bottle the amount of plastic waste entering the oceans each year is reduced by 8 million tons!
99% smaller in size
Water makes up 80-95% of cleaning products. This large volume and weight:-
- Increases transportation and shipping demands, which increases carbon and greenhouse gas emissions,
- Makes them heavy to carry,
- Require a large space to store.
NeerSol’s non toxic cleaning products come in dehydrated tablet form, meaning rather than water being added before being shipped, we add the water at home in a reusable glass spray bottle. This makes their products 99% smaller in size than regular cleaning products in bottles, so you can receive the same large 4 litre refill through your letterbox and store it easily in the tiniest of spaces!
This significantly reduced shipping and transportation demands:-
